Default Anyone scanning on AIX and Linux with PDI 7.x?

    Hi Forum !!

I am really curious to see what kind of information I get back from the AIX and Linux machines I intend to scan. Am I really so lucky that one you guys or girls have done this in this forum? If yes, please share your results.

I shall also test the Altiris Unix Inventory Client for SMS so I really hope that I can get som valuable info so it can be pushed into Servicecenters Inventory module as information related to my AIX and Linux fleet.

In AIX 4.3/5.1 I can use the lslpp -L unix command to get information around all installed filesets and so on but I have a feeling that I only get info around software installed from the smitty interface. If I for example install a SC 5.1 or a Oracle 8.1.9 the information is not listed.

I am curious to see what you find - do make sure you use the latest version of PDI for it (7.3) for the best results.

If you can post the results of this as well, I'd certainly be interested in hearing about it! As far as I can tell from their web site, the UNIX scanners only support relatively old versions of the OSes - is this still correct?

    Thanks,
    Allan

I will test on AIX 5.2 and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and I can already see an issue on the AIX side. If I have installed Oracle or Peregrine ServiceCenter using a plain install.sh then the two applications are not recognized and I think I know the reason, both are installed outside smitty and no installp has been invoked.

Maybe it is changed in the version 7.2 of the aix scanner. However, I still see a lot useful information in the output, but please add the oslevel -r to the discovery, then you will get the information of what maintenance level you are using on the Unix-box, just a suggestion...

I will put you in the loop Allan when I have finished testing, any pitfalls I should be aware of when I create my AIX scanner?

Altiris scanner supports the latest versions of the OS'es but I only get plain file recognation there, so I should know what file that belongs to a certain application, but I also have to do some deeper investigation here.

Now I am looking at webmin as well and I see amazing stuff there and the best of all, it is open source and FREE.

    /Steen
