    Default Quick import question

Our SC installation runs on P4.

We have an older, smaller help desk tracking system that we'd like to import all of that data into SC.

This old software runs on SQL.

After matching up field names/tables of course, is it possible to import all of this external SQL data into P4?

You can use connect.it and the database connector.

Just prepare for some fun, if the data contains code and special characters.

Oh boy, those are good points......

Even if I did use connect.it though, I'd have to keep that old database online instead of exporting the data to import into SC so we could then just take that old server offline.

Perhaps instead I can convince them to simply establish a transition period/cutoff date that they just stop using the old software.

Then export the required data to csv files and use connect.it to import them. If You already have connect.it the text file import is "free" the odbc connector if You don't have it cost a fortune.

I would use pmo and perhaps a pmc to create and close new tickets instead of trying to insert the records directly into the p4-files.

If you don't have connectIt , you can also import things, csv-based!? Its just a hard job to figure out what to put where..... but we did it (old Expert Advisor), so.. so can you!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. If we can't get a cut-over date established and just dump the old system, I believe what I'll do is get a delimited text export of the SQL data done and import that into SC.

I've had to do it before for our contacts table and inventory management. It's just a matter of matching up the fields.
