Default First impressions of ServiceCenter 6

Ok having played some with SC6 I am sofar impressed !

The new architecture is a bit more complicated than earlier versions and to utilize all options require some work in configuring and installing everything.

Some of the new features I really like are:
    • Server and Client installation seperate packages
    • Custom client packaging
    • Connection manager
    • Differential upgrade utility for deploying changes from test to production
    • Favorites and Dashboard
    • Web Tier. After getting tomcat up and running it took 2 minutes to setup the web access. I am now truely impressed with the work that has been done with SC6.
    Dislikes
    • The new menu - it's probably just a matter of adjustment but I don't like the new menu layout.

    Not testet yet
    • Update site
    • Java scripting
    • And a lot more

    Other comments
I am a little surprised that support for MVS has been dropped completely with ServiceCenter 6!

    BUG
I did find one bug. As mentioned in a different topic. A dll MSVCP60.dll is missing after installing the server. I was able to locate it on a different pc. I suspect the file is from MS Office.

    Connection manager

    Favorites and Dasboard

    Custom Client Packaging utility

Tommy - Does the web tier require seperate licensing? I am getting mixed messages so far from Support.

    Thanks

Not technically. I used an old auth code to test sc6 with.

My understanding is that the Web Tier replaces the Java Client; so I'm assuming that if your licensed for the Java Clilent you'll be licensed for the Web Tier.

I'm looking forward to trying SC6. Saw if at Synergy and looked like a big improvement, although I'm not sure of the new menus myself.

The new menu definately require time to getting used to it. I keep looking for several seconds for options I know where should be but at several occations I found my self going through the same submenu's over and over again not being able to find the function I needed.

I turned on the Classic SC Menu option. No need at this point to reinvent the wheel, in my mind.

I tried that too but apparently there is something not correct because many of the bitmaps in the bottom row are a bit cutoff so it really didn't look too good - But I havn't looked further into that.
