Default SC6 Access to external databases

Is it possible to query external databases from within SC6?

I know federated databases is supposed to allow this but last I heard it was only supported for Asset Center.

    Do you mean through mappings?

I am able to do it in SC 5 if you mean displaying data directly from oracle db's. I am not updating the oracle tables.

For inventory management I use P4 for holding the specific asset information but attached to the asset is the related scanned inventory data which is stored in oracle tables independant of P4.

Not through mapping but a direct connection to a different database not related at all to SC.
