Default General document attachment SC 6.2

Is there is possiblity to have a functionality in SC (latest version) where document-references can be added to incidents, changes etc... and not being forced to physically include the document into the internal SC-BLOB space via the OOB attachment feature. In a lot of situations, the documents are stored elsewhere i.e. stored in another form of depot such as DOCUMENTUM , Lotus Notes. To inhibit information-inflation, the document should not be stored more than once. So, it would be convenient if only references could be stored in SC and thus allow the SC-user to transparently "VIEW" the document lateron in the life of the incident, change or whatever.

A customer I work for have implemented a web application where users upload their files and grant access to the relevant users.

In sc there it is possible to add, edit, delete and view links to the web site. This means attachment do not need to be stored inside sc.

Exactly my thought. In my system, our volume is way to big to consider putting attachments into the database, so we have an array field where people can put URL's to documents, be it in the document mgmt system or on a group website or share drive or whatever.
