Default SC 6.1 Web Tier Performance

I've heard mixed messages about the web tier. Is anyone available to comment from a large customer with heavy usage (50+ concurrent users, 200+ would be better).

I know functionally it can be messy - with things that 'work' in the full client not working in the web client, but I'm more interested in performance. Is the web tier a one way ticket to 15 second screen load times?

Also I'd be curious to hear about implemented solutions that seak to minimize performance issues of the web tier. If you are one of said sites - I presume most sites with high usage are load balancing on the web tier?

    Thanks!

We found a number of bugs in 6.1.2 that were fixed in 6.1.3. The biggest thing missing functionality-wise that I can think of is DDE. Lack of it means no export to Excel and no DDE integrations (eg knowledge).

Performance for us is good. Note that we have some pretty beefy Solaris hardware thrown at it though.

Thanks for the info glg. Are you using the web tier as the primary client for your users? Let me ask my question slightly differently. I've heard rumblings that web performance stinks - no matter what app server you use you will run into many more performance issues via the web tier than say 5.1 client. I've also heard these issues are related to Peregrine and not to the hardware used on the web tier.

Frankly - I don't believe it. I find often times when an implementation goes badly clients blame Peregrine rather than face their own shortcomings. What would be ideal is someone who runs a system with a large number of web clients and no performance complaints. Are you out there?

My personal feeling is that any heavy user (helpdesk, queue managers, etc) should be using the windows client. General technical users may be okay with the web client, but it would be wise to offer the windows client if requested.
