Connect-IT over Https

Has anybody already used connect-it when exchanging files between different companies using https.

Some questions come to mind:
- do we need an https server
- is there a need for web application, or can connect-IT do this
- What is usage of the Web Service connector
- what is the usage of XML & XML listening connector

I had to furnish details regarding protocols used between Connect IT and Service Center server. I think it is Http and Https over SOAP, but have not got any mention in the documents. What are the supported protocols for Connect IT.
