Exclamation Error on creating connection from ServiceCenter 6.2 to Oracle 9.2

    Hello,

I installed ServiceCenter 6.2 Server and am currently trying to create a connection from the SC 6.2 P4 database to Oracle in order to shadow the P4 and use the Oracle database as operational database. These are the changes i have made:

    - edited the login credentials in the sc.ini file
    - created an Oracle in OraHome ODBC connection to connect to a newly created Oracle database that will be used to load the shadow tables in
    - in the sc.cfg file disabled all lines except for "scenter -listener" so theres only 1 process running once im in SC

When i open the Service Center Console and start the server, it tells the service is not running. when i open the sc.log file i see the following error message. Anyone knows a solution to this or documentation that explains how to connect to Oracle using ServiceCenter 6.2? Really appreciated!

Connected to Data source 'ORASC62' SQL server 'ORASC62 ' version: 9.2.10 Using database '' as user 'system'
It appears you don't have a database specified.

    tommy,

these are the lines that i have in the sc.ini file

    sqldb:ORASC62
    sqllogin:username/password

ORASC62 is the TNS service name. I double checked this in the ODBC connection i made.

Ok then I think there is a problem with the TNS connection or the database on the server. I don't have experience with this part. I always ask an oracle admin to set those things up for me.

SC does *not* use ODBC. It uses Oracle native libraries. Do you have the Oracle client correctly installed on the SC server? Can you connect to that TNS name with sqlplus?

connect username/password@ORASC62 - ORASC62 is the name of the newly created Oracle 9 database and yes i can connect to the database using SQLPLUS.

The client? Do you mean the Enterprise Manager Console? If so then yes it is installed.

I don't think the manager console is necesary. Just make sure the oracle client is installed and the TNS name setup correct. It seems there is something in the definition that is not correct since SC can't see the actual database.

Maybe it is the userid used? I would advice you to create a new userid specifically for this database and not use system because the userid password is in a freetext file.

i created a new user and created a two new tablespaces, one temporary and one permanent. assigned them to the new user, but it still aint working

tommy, is the oracle client a seperate installer? cause i cant find it on the oracle cd's

also when i remove the oracle home ODBC connection to the oracle database, the following error is shown in the log. Doesnt ServiceCenter always use ODBC? Also for Oracle?

No when using Oracle SC use the oracle native libraries not an ODBC connection.

    MS SQL use ODBC.

It has been a long time since I tried installing an oracle server. I am not a db admin so it was on trial and error basis. I have not tried only to install the client though only the full server which included the client. I think its the same installer you just need to select the correct application to install. I am sorry I am not much help.

You can download the Oracle client from Oracle's website. I'm going through this process right in my test environment and the client installed with no problems on our server (RedHat ES 4). If you continue to have problems post back.

    EDIT
Don't forget to update the ServiceCenter/ServiceManager user account with PATH information it needs to find the Oracle lib directory

wow, thats a long time back. anyway i solved the problem a long time back. if i remember correct, the problem was that the P4 was already shadowed to sql. if you use a clean install of SC 6.2, the above steps should be enough to get it working.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. I know some of the posts may be old on here but if the answers are posted it will help anybody searching. Cheers
