Default Migration Service Desk 4.5 to SM 7

    Hi gents,

Did any of you actually migrate Service Desk 4.5 od 5.1 to Service Manager 7? ..or to Service Center?

What steps should be done for this ?

You can only import to SM7 the data from SD and re-configure all the flows using SM7 administrations tools ,knowing that are different than the ones from SD.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

We are currently on Service Desk 4.5 SP 17 and are investigating how we are to proceed towards the SM 7.1 upgrade, including the uCMDB, Business Availabilty Centre, HP OVO 8, NNM....

I believe you are correct. Basically HP will support some data migration from SD to SM 7, but all the workflows etc will need to be rebuilt... It's almost a start again... for the SD client base....

FYI - this forum is great from my perspective, given the SM 7 is largely a Service Centre based product, so tapping into Service Centre based knowledge through this avenue is a great help in my position....

    cheers....

    Hi,

contact HP - they should give you the upgrade scenarios. They are not very useful (one of them is still not working for me, but I had no much time to play with it). But it is at least some help, better than nothing.
From the other hand such a big company as HP should provide scenarios to migrate locations, users, depts, CIs, problems, etc. These are standard objects in SD and SM, that scenario should work for everyone. They provide sample scenario for SMS, Tivoli, etc. - why not prepare for SD?

I wonder if your licenses will be enough when HP converts them 1:1. I am not saying it will not - I am just not sure.

Yes, everything must be reimplemented in SM.
What do you consider in order to replace work orders? Tasks in change?

    best regards

Just an idea come to me: I will prepare some Connect-It scenarios for moving
data from HP SD 5.1 to HP SM - who would like to contribute?
I mean: for example I will do CIs and locations, someone might do users, some other departments, etc.

    regards
    Artur

Default Data Migration Tool for HP SD and HP SM

    Hi,

I have received form HP something they call "MigrationPackage" or
"Automated migration tools". I am not sure because they use both names
and file has different name then the mail.

I see only 2 scenarios in it:
    SDProjCustom2Change.scn
    SDProjectToChange.scn

and there are 5 pdfs. Looking into them I see there are some other
    scenarios described then those two.

DO you have something they call "Data Migration Tool" or
Migration Package or Automated migration tools ?

    Is it for free?

    regards
    Artur

    Artur,

HP has announced that migration utilities and tools will be made available for SD 5/5.1 with the SM7.1 release due out this fall. The current toolset targets migrations from SD 4.5 to SM7.01 and is not intended for 5/5.1. Direct migration of SD 5/5.1 to SM7.0x is not supported.

    Hi,

we need to start much sooner, in about month or so. Besides HP quite often
is experiencing the delay with their product.

I have very good knowledge of ConnectIt so I can do it by my own. But
why not split this task and do it faster and easier?

    regards
    Artur

    Artur,

You can certainly go ahead and do it, but since HP does not currently support a SD 5.x to SM7.0x migration path and will be providing a toolset to support those migrations only once 7.1 is released, it doesn't make a lot of sense for most of the users of the forum to do it. Unless they specifically have a 5.x customer pushing to upgrade ahead of the HP schedule, they probably have other projects to work on instead.

As to HP "delays", the 7.01 release was targeted for 90 days after initial product release and was released on time. That's not a guarantee that 7.1 will be out as planned 9 months after the 7.00 release, but so far they've made the SM7 targets.

    Hi all,

Maybe the 'ICM' is an idea, I know that it has a predefined templates and configuration to easilly migrate data from Service Desk to SM7. The product is from Rubik Solutions (in the past Scope4Mation/NetScope), please have a look at this product brief: http://www.netscope.eu/files/Doc/Pro..._EN_A4-web.pdf

Feel free to contact me if you've got other questions or want more information.

    Regards,

    Marcel
