    Smile Issue with Attachemnts

    Hi all,

When i try to save or open the .msg attachment from the line item, i just kicked out of SC. And got the JVM error.
In my assumption, the .msg name is too long and it contains consequtive spaces also, thats the reason, it cannot able to open. I tried the copy and save as option, but all in vain.
Is there any other solution to view the attachments.

    Thanks
    Vino

    Hi Vino,

Did anyone ever come back on this outside the auspices of this thread?

I had nearly the same thing reported last night. No one got kicked out, but they were unable (and I am unable) to view certain *.msg threads, and the common component seems to be this phenomenally long filename. I have found the issue in two different CH tickets, but with both of them there were two *.msg files, both with the aforementioned long names.

If you didn't hear anymore from anyone I'll keep looking around.

    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,

I have not faced the problem you describe, but maybe it would be easier if you at least tell what is your SC version, what is the jvm error.
Also try to turn on SC client logging and see what happens, as well as detailed server logging.

    regards
    Artur

    We are running SC 5.1.

The common components of the failures are that they occur against .msg files whose filename is > 100 chars.

    The message is:

"Can't open file: C:\DOCUME~\uwmjfj\LOCALS~1\Temp\RE CH1054258 - Fix for pros wTRFA keyword going.... The file may not exist, you may not have permission to open it, or it may be open in another program. Right-click the folder that contains the file, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder."

Have not had a chance to set up or check the logging recommendations you made.

    Good morning all.

Over here, we've got a similar problem.
We are running SC 6.1.3 and it doesn't matter what kind of file it is. When the Filename is too long, it doesn't open it and you get the following error:

A DDE error has occurred, and a description of the error cannot be displayed because it is too long. If the filename or path is long, try renaming the file or copying it to a different folder
The location of the file doesn't really matter. When the filename is more than 61 characters, it won't open.

Obviously, the workaround is to shorten the filenames, but there are several internal rules about naming some types of filenames, so a short filename is not always possible.

Is there an option within ServiceCenter (for example in the System Informatio record) to stretch the number of characters allowed for attachments?

I hope my question is clear enough for you.
I was planning to open a new topic, but the I saw this one and it seemed similar.

    Thanks in advance.

    With kind regards,

    Ralph
