Default Web Services API for ticket auto-creating?

    Hi,
a newbie question: In our implementation of SD4.5 we use HPSD Web API to create incidents automatically (from monitoring system). We are migrating to SM7 this year.
Is it possible to get the same with SM7 Web Services API (without need of ConnectIT or SCAuto)? Could somebody tell me, what are advantages/disadvantages to these tools regarding this functionality?.
    Thanks,

    Jitka

    Hi,

I do not know the HPSD Web API....
You can use the SM7 Web Service to create, retrieve and update tickets (and any other tables). This is a standard functionality and it follows the workflow you have in your SM7 system (validations, calculations, etc...). As well the user you use when you login to the web service has the same restrictions (profiles) as if the user would work with the GUI. There is a white paper on HP SSO (support knowledge base) for Web services. There you can find details. But... web service is not designed for mass-creation, updates, etc... There are tools like SOAP sonar that you can use to manually create web service calls that help an external developer to build an interface.

You would use Connect-IT or SCAuto to build interfaces to system management tools, data bases, CSV files, etc... Both tools use SM7 event services technology. Events are added to eventin tables and a background process (or immeadiately) processes them (also within the workflow)

    HTH a bit..

Depending on the monitoring system, you could use web services, connect-it, or sc-auto. For applications from the HP portfolio, integration for NNM, Ops Console for Unix, and Ops Console for Windows are delivered as SC-Auto integrations and the rest use Connect-It. If you're integrating with an HP product, use the HP integration, but for a 3rd party product, you could use any integration method.

Thanks for your responses, Lars and jstagaman,

we have Tivoli TEC for monitoring from which we want to create incidents in SM7. We need to know if we'll have to buy high-priced licenses for TEC connectors (Connect-It or SCAuto) or we'll manage with SM7 Web Service for this functionality.

It depends on volume. As was mentioned already the web services is not meant for high volume ticket creation. For that you need to use Connect. It or SCAuto applications.
