    Default Upgrading from SC 4.x to Service Manager 7

    Our company has been using Service Center 4.x on an Intel platform for a couple of years now, and we are planning an upgrade to Service Manager 7. Our service desk uses SC4, and we are also using SC4 as an inventory management tool for our technical fixed assets.

    HP has infomed us that in order to migrate the asset data to Service Manager, we must first migrate it to Asset Center, and then port the data to Service Manager and sync the two resulting SQL databases.

    Is there no way to migrate the data directly to SM7 and keep it updated from within the SM7 application?

    Amazing. AC has totally different tables and logic. Why not upgrade this way:
    SC4 --> SAP --> SM 7 ?
    or
    SC4 --> MS Excell --> SM 7 ?

    etc. etc.

    A lot of unnecessary work and wasting time. Use ConnectIt or unl or txt files and move your data manually.

    regards
    Artur

    So you're saying that the upgrade SC4 to AC to SM7 is totally unnecessary? Can the asset information we migrate to SM7 be updated from within SM7 (apologies - I am a true SM7 newbie)?

    Yes, going to AssetCenter is completely unnecessary. SM7 evolved from SC (not HP Service Desk). Some of the stuff you do in SC 4 will be more or less the same in SM7 (FD, FC, links) and some of it is new (doc engine is a little in 4, but in all modules in 7, javascript, etc).

    Are you trying to upgrade your system to 7 or reimplement? I'd highly recommend the latter.

    As far as your device data goes, there are some differences in how it works in 7, so you are probably best off exporting it from SC 4 and then importing to SM 7.
