Default activation on operators from contacts !

    hi,
maybe some of you are interested in this.
If you look at the attached screendump you will se an option called "Login?".

When this is checked the contact will be able to login to ServiceCenter or Get-Service.

This means that allmost all maintenance of users can be done from the contacts file instead of updating the operator file.

    hehe..
its not just paranoia.. its also because that we are automatically getting the contact information from Active Directory (LDAP) but we don't have any flags or anything in Active Directory telling us if it is a normal contact or if the contact should also have ServiceCenter access so the alternative is (as far as I can see) is to take all 30000 users both in the operator and contacts table - I don't want that...
so instead of creating the operators manually i just want to check them out in the contacts file. call me lazy AND paranoid

Wow! 30000 users! How many do you see logged on concurrently? We are getting ready to start authenticating using Active Directory, and this looks interesting!

Active Directory has been a bit of a pain in the a$$ for us. People accessing ServiceCenter as a member of the active directory domain is not a problem.

The 2 problems we've seen so far are:

When a user logs in to active directory using Win2K client - takes about a whole minute or two. Probably because we have roaming profiles turned on.

When migrating ServiceCenter data to SQL (both SC and SQL are in active directory), the migration takes around 4-5 hours - ONE WAY!!!
When the SQL server is NOT in active directory, the migration takes about 50-60 minutes.

Hmmm... the SQL part should not be an issue for us (we use UDB on UNIX side). But the roaming profiles is exactly what they are planning to use. I will forward this info to the AD team.

Can I ask, how many of your 30000 users do you see concurrently logged in at any time?

    Thanks,
    Shirley

Default your screem to enable contacts to login

The option to enable contacts to login to, for example, get-services, looks very interesting. How does it work on the background, i.e. what happens when you place/remove the checkmark?

It runs a script that creates the operator record (based on a operator template i've created). When removing the checkmark from the contact the script will remove the operator record (i'm using rtecalls). This is how we are maintaining operators.
