Couldn't you ask something simpler ? Like how to clone humans or how to attain cold fusion ? ;-)

.net is a fully-integrated development platform - you go and code, and essentially the microsoft environment takes care of all kinds of things. There are tons of standard subroutines and objects. You can create forms on the fly, and just integrate the functionnality you want, and save a lot of work doing the background stuff.

I've come to think we'd be better off cloning our Tivoli Service Desk system in VB.net, piece by piece, using the same DB we have in place. But hey, that's just me :-?

On the OS front, a .NET server equals to Windows XP Server edition.
